Nursery Art

I love customizing things for me and my family. This includes art for their room. Now, I'm not one to go out and buy art. I'd much rather make my own art if I can help it. When I was pregnant with Kaitlyn, I got to work on some customized art for right above her crib. I wanted her to have something fun to look at and high enough to be out of her reach. So, I got together 3 frames, spray painted each one white, and went about getting some inspiration to put in the frames.

I love trees, so when I found this tree with heart leaves on my Silhouette software, I knew just what to do with it. I cut the tree out with the plaid pattern and then cut the hearts out with another pattern. They didn't match by any means, but together, I think they go well together. If you don't have a Silhouette or other cutting machine, you can always print something out and use an x-acto knife to get the job done.
Lord knows that's what I did before I got the cutting machine. :)

On the other side is a tree branch with a bird on it. Again, I choose colors that went well together, but didn't match.

The middle picture was simple a small square of scrapbook paper that ties in colors from the pictures on either side of it.

This was a really simple task and I love the results, even one and a half years later. Luckily, this little girl loves it too. The K was something else I just cut out and put in a frame. Easy peasy is my middle name.

Friday Project

Today, I was off work. When that happens, I try to get a project done.
It works out so much easier when I am at home by myself. Instead of trying to do something late at night, after bed-time, I get to do it in the day light. Yippee!

Today, I broke out my Silhouette machine. For those of you don't know, it is a cutting machine. You can design your own things, write out words, or buy designs/pictures from their online store. I've had my machine for 4 years now and I love it.
I have definitely gotten my money's worth. It's not cheap. :)

I printed out a phrase many are familiar with...Home Sweet Home. I love this saying. It's kind of a cliche, but my home really is sweet and I probably say it at least 4 times a week.

I found this gray, geometrical wrapping paper at Tai Pan Trading (a local home decor store) and found the yellow paper in my paper stash.

I try to buy scrap book paper at any of the local craft stores when it's on sale. When I do go, I try to stock up a bit. It's always good to have paper on hand because I love paper crafts and enjoy making my own cards for holidays and birthdays.

So, I cut out my yellow Home Sweet Home and attached it to my gray wrapping paper. I had this black frame in my stash of frames and put it all together.

I think it turned out pretty cute. It's good having it on wall as a reminder. My home is a sweet home and I will do my best to keep it that way!

A New Art Frame of Mind

At this point in our lives, home projects consist of spending little to no money. So, when I can incorporate something new into something I already own, well that's what I call luck. Today, the girls and I went to Ikea. If there's anyone who's seen the movie "A Night at the Roxbury" and can recall the scene with Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon...that's me.
I LOVE it. It is my all time favorite store of all time.
Anyways, enough about my love affair with Ikea. Geez. Get a room. Ha. Get it.

While we there, I saw some beautiful posters that were only $10 for a pack of two.
I already had the frame.

Where there used to be children's art, we now have something a little more adult.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Emma and I love Emma's coloring. I was just as proud as she was to have her picture donning our wall. But, now that I have something a little more adult, it seems more simplistic and therefore more clean.

Here's a little tidbit about me. Right now, I am trying to simplify my life.
I feel like this is a step in the right direction. Have things be more streamlined.

I'll probably find another frame to put Emma's art in a new frame somewhere else. :)
